Dear Randy: Toxic Coworkers

Time to answer more of your emails!  Today, I tackle a toxic coworker.

Dear Randy,

Although I thought you were way off with the cameras in schools stuff yesterday, I still love you guys in the morning!  Anyway, here’s my situation.  The company I work for in Caldwell just hired a new person.  She’s soooooo mean.  She treats everybody at our office as if we’re stupid.  She puts down people at meetings and is really difficult to work with.  Our office used to be a fun place to work.  But since she was hired it’s like everybody is miserable. I’m thinking I may have to find another job, and I don’t think I’m the only one.  How do you handle somebody like this?!

Those sort of people will always implode.  The trick is outlasting them.  Take deep breaths and talk to your boss about your concerns.  Then wait.  If she’s as bad as you say she is, eventually she’ll be her own undoing.  I know it’s hard when a toxic person is introduced into the mix at work, but be strong!  When somebody is a cancer at the workplace, eventually the cancer has to be removed or they infect the entire building. Your boss will eventually realize this. Until then, keep us on your radio and keep smiling through your gnashing teeth.  It's a lot easier than trying to find a place to hide the body...
