20 Yrs for Man Who Stabbed Pregnant Girlfriend
Jose E. Cardenas, 24, was sentenced yesterday to 20 years in prison after stabbing his pregnant girlfriend during an argument back in August. He'll be eligible for parole in 8.
The Canyon County Sheriff's Office reports that Cardenas lured his girlfriend, who was 4 months pregnant, away from her job before the stabbing took place. He lead her to her car where he stabbed her multiple times in her neck and chest. Cardenas also took her keys and cell phone. He then left her bleeding near Tucker and Upper Pleasant Ridge roads in Caldwell on the side of the road.
Prosecutor Bryan Taylor said in a press release, "Mr. Cardenas showed no regard for the law or human life when he attacked the victim and left her for dead on the side of the road. Thankfully, she was able to call for help or this very well could have been a homicide."
After his arrest, Cardenas admitted to the stabbing saying he did it out of frustration. He also said that he had taken the knife from his uncle's house and after the stabbing tossed it into a canal.
Due to the fact that Cardenas is a Mexican national who was living in the US illegally, it's most likely that once he's released from prison that he'll be deported back to Mexico.
