Where To Go Sledding Near Boise

Boise hasn't had much snowfall this winter and for winter lovers in Idaho, that just isn't acceptable. For many, Bogus Basin is nearby and offers up amazing fun for the whole family.

But, what if you want to change it up?

Recently, one of Idaho's best winter gems less than an hour from Boise made a triumphant return and is a nice alternative if you're looking for something different.

Located in Idaho City, Steamboat Gulch Sledding & Tubing was a winter sledding go-to for Idahoans before they shut down. According to a statement from the Department of Lands in 2023, one of the main operators had to step away to focus on their health:

Doug Pottenger, the former operator, can't continue due to his health and need for a liver transplant. Now, someone is needed to both keep the tubes sliding and help ensure recreational mischief on the site doesn’t damage this endowment land parcel.

While the reason for shutting down is totally understandable, the closure left a void for snow lovers in Idaho.

Thankfully, the folks at Steamboat Gulch Sledding & Tubing knew how important and popular they are so they found another partner.

Then, back in November 2024, it was announced that Steamboat Gulch Sledding & Tubing would make a triumphant return for winter lovers across Idaho.

Because this winter hasn't been as snowy as we like, many of us might've forgotten about Steamboat Gulch Sledding & Tubing's reopening.

We had a chance to check it out and it didn't disappoint! We'll share some tips with you, like if you do plan on going, you'll need to make a pitstop at Idaho City's Sarsaparilla Ice Cream Parlor to get registered before you hit the hills.
